IND vs SA series 2022: Cuttack T20I in doubt as PIL filed in court for inadequate fire safety measures

Xtra Time Web Desk: The second T20I between India and South Africa in the upcoming T20I series is in doubts following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed to cancel the match scheduled to be held on June 12.

According to reports in local media, a resident of Dhenkanal’s Bhuban called Sanjay Nayak has filed the PIL, seeking cancellation of the match. Nayak has informed the court that the fire safety measures in the Barabati Stadium stadium is not up to the mark to organize an international game of cricket.

Earliet on May 26, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) had ordered for provision of necessary fire safety measures, after it was found that the arrangements were not adequate. Despite having a capacity of 44,000 spectators, the Barabati Stadium does not have a proper fire safety mechanism in place.

The OHRC, meanwhile, has asked DCP Cuttack and the secretary of the Odisha Cricket Association to file their report on the fire safety arrangements by June 26.
