Kolkata: It was Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan’s destiny to remain as the runners up in the competitions in which they participated this year. Jo Paul Ancheri’s boys failed to win any silverware when his side went down 3-0 in the 121st IFA Shield final. The 12 crore senior team leaded by eminent stars like Sony Norde, Katsumi Yusa and others too failed to win any Trophy and ended by being runners of both I-League losing to Aizawl FC and Fed Cup to Bengaluru FC.

FC Pune City’s Gani Ahmmed Nigam opened the account for the visitors on the 56th minute of the game. Pune got a penalty on the 66th minute of the game and Gani didn’t miss the chance to score his second of the match and doubled the lead for his side. FC Pune City’s Liran Thunga Lothar put the final nail on the Mariner’s coffin as he scored his first and team’s third and final goal on the 84th minute of the game. FC Pune City also registered a win against the Green and Maroon Brigade in the Group Stages. In that match Gani Ahmmed Nigam was the Hero of the Match too as his team won the match by his solitary goal.

Gani, who was adjudged today’s Hero of the Match too is a die-hard fan of Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.” I am not a positive striker but my coach told me that the match is on Mohun Bagan ground and they will get additional advantage while playing and you have to do well by overcoming all those obstacles. I am happy that I have done well for my side,” said Gani Ahmmed Nigam.

FC Pune City coach Rager Lamesa Grau said,” Mohun Bagan played really well in the first 45 of the game but they failed to capitalize their chances during the first half and my boys have capitalized on that. And I am happy with my team’s performance. They have converted the chances which they got in the second half.”

Mohun Bagan U-19 coach Jo Paul Ancheri was very much disappointed with his team’s performance,” I am disappointed with the boys’ performance. We played every match at our home ground. Like the last few matches the boys failed to convert the chances which they got today in the first half. If you fail to convert these easy chances there is no chance that you can win a tournament,” said Ancheri.
