Xtra Time Web Desk: Seasoned English pacer Stuart Broad has recently come out and questioned the system being used for points allocation for the World Test Championship, wondering how the points allocated for a five-match Ashes series could be the same as that allocated for a two-match series being contested by India and Bangladesh. India and New Zealand will face off in the final of the inaugural edition of the WTC this June, after having qualified according to the criteria which had been devised.

The ICC mandates that same number of points be made available from each series, irrespective of its length, so that countries which are playing fewer Tests are not affected adversely. “The World Test Championship is a really good concept, I just don’t think it’s quite right yet. It’s a first-time effort. I can’t quite work out how a five-match Ashes series can be worth the same as India playing Bangladesh for two Tests,” Broad said. According to the current criteria,  match results and not series results are taken into account. In a five-match series, 20 per cent of the points are available for each match, while in a two-match series, 50 per cent of the points are available for every game.
