ICC CWC 2019: Dhoni can sport only manufacturers logo on gloves, says ICC

Debasis Sen, London: Former India captain MS Dhoni can sport two manufacturers logo on his wicket keeping gloves, according to the International Cricket Council. The two times World Cup winning Indian captain was in the midst of controversy for sporting a wicket keeping gloves which showed the insignia of one of the Indian Army units during Wednesday’s World Cup 2019 opening match against South Africa in Southampton.

It was circulated here that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not allow him to sport the logo. According to Claire Furlong, the ICC General Manager, Strategic, “No logo can go on gloves except two manufacturers logos are permitted on each wicket keeper gloves. No other visible logos other than the manufacturer’s logos are allowed. This is the breach.”

So, it means Dhoni can only put a manufacturer’s logo on his gloves. It also means that no other logos will be entertained. Neither ICC nor BCCI is willing to clarify on the matter at the moment.

The social media was taken by storm after the images of Dhoni’s gloves surfaced when he stumped
Proteas fast bowler Andile Phehlukwayo. The logo symbolises the regimental dagger of the Indian Para Special Forces.

It was further stated by ICC, “The ICC equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.”
Earlier this year, Dhoni and the Indian team wore camouflage caps during an ODI against Australia at Ranchi as a tribute to the CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the February 14 Pulwama terror attack.

It will be interesting to see whether Dhoni walks into the Oval on June 09 against Australia with the logo of the Indian Para Special Forces.
