Xtra Time Web Desk : The International Cricket Council on Friday announced the fixtures for the T20 World Cup 2022 schedule where it was declared that Team India will open their campaign in the show piece tournament, later this year, against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The mega tournament later this year will consist of 16 teams and would be played in venues like Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, starting from October 16 with the final to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13 November.

The main ICC event will kick off with the match between defending champions and hosts Australia against New Zealand on 22 October.

Team India are placed in Group 2 along with Bangladesh and South Africa apart from the runners up of Group A and Winner of Group B from the initial rounds, who would join the above three after their qualification.

Rohit Sharma's men will then clash with the runners up of Group A on October 27, followed by the match against South Africa on October 30. India will then play against Bangladesh on November 2, before locking horns with Group B winners on November 6.
