Canadian Iain Hume has signed for Spanish second division side SD Ponferradina .

Internet Desk: Atletico de Kolkata striker Iain Hume has recently signed for Spanish second division side SD Ponferradina . The Canadian announced his move via social media . His contract runs through the end of the season.

“Playing in Spain has always been something I’ve dreamt about doing, and when the chance came up I had little hesitation!” he said on Instagram. “I don’t speak the language, but I’ve been eager to learn it for a few years! Now I have no excuse not to! I can’t wait to get started!”

Ponferradina currently stands 16th in Spain’s second division.

The 32-year-old Hume previously played for Kerala Blasters FC in India and Tranmere Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End and Leicester City in England.

Born in Edinburgh to Scottish parents, Hume came to Canada when he was one. Growing up in Brampton, Ont., he made his debut for Tranmere in April 2000 when he was just 16.

Hume has won 42 caps for Canada.

Hume is well known in India as he has played in the Hero ISL for the last two consecutive years for Kerala Blasters and Atletico de Kolkata respectively. He had won the Golden Ball award for Kerala Blasters in the first edition of the ISL scoring 5 goals in the 16 matches. In the second edition of the ISL he was the highest scorer for Atletico de Kolkata scoring 11 goals in the 16 matches he played. He was adjudged the fittest player of the season too.
