Wedson Anselme again proved to be the decisive factor in securing another crucial victory in front of a chock-a-block stadium with incessant support. East Bengal started the game in a tentative fashion as the Chennai City team came out with a genuine purpose. Trevor Morgan's team avoided an early danger in the 4th minute when Rehenesh was beaten by Charles outside of the box but experienced Gurwinder made a timely intervention to give some sort of respite to the British coach. East Bengal created a gorgeous opportunity in the 7th minute with a brisk counter attack. Wedson released a beautiful forward through to Nikhil Poojary but the youngster couldn't quite put his shot on target. East Bengal brought in another fine move in the 19th minute when Rahul Bheke delivered a great cross from the right but Robin Singh's header was too feeble to trouble the Chennai defence. In the 23rd minute Charles came out with a superb run but even after beating Ivan Bukenye on the right, his attempt ended up side netting. In the 29th minute Narayan Das curled in a fine cross which found Willis Plaza in a free territory but the Caribbean forward's header went off target. East Bengal became a bit frustrated with the stubborn defending of the South Indian club but continued their effort to find a goal. In the 34th minute Rowllin Borges' long range volley went just over the cross bar. The half time team talk worked like magic for the Red and Gold brigade as Wedson Anselme gave the all important lead to the league leaders with a precision finish after getting a delightful chipped ball from the skipper Didika Ralte to make it 1-0. In the 69th minute Willis Plaza tried to go from distance but his powerful right footer was way too off target. The combination play of Dika and Wedson worked beautifully in the second half and played the key role to bring some spice in the East Bengal attacks which were becoming a bit one dimensional in the first 45 minutes. East Bengal got their second goal in the 74th minute when star Haitian Wedson Anselme sneaked through a gem of a forward ball and the Caribbean goal poacher Willis Plaza scored his 5th goal of the league in a fantastic fashion. East Bengal scored the third goal in the added time (90'+4') as substitute Semboi Haokip was tripped inside the box and earned a penalty. Captain Didika Ralte made no mistake to make it 3-0. The combination of the two central defenders of Kingfisher East Bengal is getting better and better as the time progressing and transforming the Red and Gold defence into a fortress. The understanding between Gurwinder Singh and Ivan Bukenya will certainly give a huge boost to the British Coach ahead of the much awaited Kolkata derby on February 12. The work rate of Narayan Das on the left will also be an encouraging factor for the Red and Gold brigade as the flaming torch marching along to clinch their illusive title. Hero of the Match: Wedson Anselme.
