I-League: FIFA’s DRC imposes three-window transfer ban on Punjab FC

XtraTime Web Desk: Bad news for I-League side Punjab FC as FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) have handed a three-window transfer ban to the I-League side after they failed to pay a compensation of $18,000 to the North Macedonian footballer Hristijan Denkovski.

After the player & Punjab FC went to FIFA regarding the contractual obligations,it’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) had given it’s judgement in favour of Denkovski on Fabruary 13 earlier this year and they had given an instruction to the club that it must have to pay the compensation to the player in one and half months time.

But Punjab FC disobeyed the order of FIFA and didn’t pay the compensation within March 31, 2020. After this the DRC has imposed a transfer ban on the club and instructed them to clear the dues of Denkovski as early as possible.

The contract between the club and player shows that the Denkovski was supposed to get $2000 per month from the club & the final amount which was settled between the two parties were $18,000 and an interest rate of 5% per annum on the amount as of August 29, 2019.

Punjab FC, which was earlier Minerva Punjab FC owned of Ranjit Bajaj, had settled a contract with the former Gokulam Kerala footballer on July 5, 2019. Denkovski agreed on a one-year deal with the club which had started from September 1, 2019 and it was supposed to end on May 31, 2020.

Later Denkovski gave his no Third Party Ownership (TPO) certificate to the club in July 2019, but surprisingly Punjab FC (Minerva Punjab) told the player on August 6 that it has terminated the contract of the club and declared it null and void as the ownership has changed. Four days later, the club had sent ‘No Dues Certificate’ and ‘Mutual Settlement Agreement’ to the player.

After the negotiation between the two side, the club said to the player that he deliberately made delays to send the proof of no TPO document, and that’s why the club has taken the decision of terminating the contract.

After that Denkovski approached to FIFA on August 2019, where the DRC stated that a valid contract of employment was signed between the club and the player and also the player had sent the proof of no TPO documents well within the timeline. After that the DRC gave its decision in favour of the player.
