I-League 2018/19: Kisekka’s brilliance upsets Minerva, Mohun Bagan jumps back in the winning ways

XtraTime Web Desk: A sublime strike from Henry Kisekka in the 79th minute brings Mohun Bagan right back in the title race, as the Mariners beat Minerva Punjab by 1-0 away from home in the Hero I-League today.

Mohun Bagan started the game with a lot of promise as they made their intent clear rign from the start. Dicka could have put Bagan ahead in the first minute. He skipped past Jorge Caicedo and nutmegged a shot which bounces off the frame of the goal and Arshdeep collects it with his heart in his mouth.

A dramatic moment happened in the 40th minute as Omar’s free-kick crashed into the post and it bounced on the line before Caicedo cleared it away.

Mohun Bagan got a fine chance in the 47th minute, when another chance went begging for Bagan. Bagui delivered another inch-perfect cross from the right but that time Dipanda could not guide his header into goal.

Mohun Bagan was denied from a penalty in the 51st minute when an appeal of handball from Kisekka after his shot struck Akashdeep was turned down. The referee got it wrong once again as the ball did strike his arm.

Bagan’s misfortune played its role again in the 72nd minute as they once again denied by the post. Ambekar pumped in a cross which was headed down by Sourav for Kisekka who got a flick. Arshdeep got a touch but not strong enough. The ball bounced against the post and Dipanda could not convert before the goalkeeper regained composure and collected it.

The illusive moment of the game came in the 79th minute as Bagan finally found the opener. Quick feet from Kisekka gave Toure a run for the money and he converted from an acute angle. Sheer power from the Ugandan and Arshdeep was left rooted to the spot.
