Kolkata: Mohun Bagan is back in the title race after a highly significant victory over a spirited NEROCA FC by 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium today. The man who is usually known for making the difference, Sony Norde, once again appeared to be the difference between the two sides. A moment of magic in the 78th minute was enough to knock Neroca out of the game.
In the 78th minute, Faiaz chipped it to Caldeira who played it across midfield to find Norde. Norde made a run, went near the arc and slammed it past a helpless Thapa on the far bottom corner to seal the vital three points.
Though NEROCA might be disappointed as the Mohun Bagan captain and goalkeeper Shilton Paul pulled off a few unbelievable saves to deny them from scoring despite being the more dominant side between the two.
The win takes The Mariners to 21 points off 13 games and 2 points above East Bengal. Though the Green and Maroon brigade played three more games than their arch-rivals.
