Indian Super League 2016 Introduces Five New Renowned Managers to Indian Football

Internet Desk : The Hero Indian Super League 2016 is all set to have as many as five new managers who will make their debuts in Indian Super League season 3. The 5 managers, who will have their first taste of Indian football, are extremely big names in the context of world football. XtraTime.in analyses the profiles of these renowned figures whose strategies will be tested for the first time in Indian football. Coppell Steve Coppell (Kerala Blasters): Kerala Blasters announces Steve Coppell as the new manager of the team in ISL 2016. Coppell will no doubt be working on building a nucleus of support staff incorporating the best of Indian and international talents. The Man United legend was the foremost right-winger of his generation known for his speed and work rate. He won domestic honours for Manchester United with 322 appearances and 53 goals. With 42 England appearances, he represented England in international football including at the FIFA World Cup from 1977 to 1983 when his career was cut short by an injury. With a pervasive management career from 1984 to date, he is part of a select band racking up more than 1000 games as a manager working at famous football clubs like Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, Brentford, and Crawley Town and was most recently the Director of Football at Portsmouth. His stint with Crystal Palace and Reading resulted in both clubs getting their greatest ever successes in their Premier League history. He was twice been named League Managers’ Association ‘Manager of the Year’ when he was in charge of Reading FC. zambrotta Gianluca Zambrotta (Delhi Dynamos): The legendary Italian full back who made 217 appearances for Juventus between 1999 and 2006 before joining Barcelona and AC Milan. He played for the Italian national team from 1999 to 2010. The sublime right fullback also helped Italy to win the FIFA World Cup in 2006. After his retirement from the playing career, the former Italian defender had a coaching stint with Swiss club Chiasso from 2013-15 and will replace Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, who guided the club to the ISL semi-finals last season. Guimaraes Alexandre Guimaraes (Mumbai City FC): The 56 years old Costa Rican led the South American nation as a head coach in the 2002 & 2006 FIFA World Cups. He also has the precious experience of working in Asia with stints with UAE’s Al Wasl and China’s Tianjin Teda. Guimaraes has over 20 years of coaching experience and is known to be proficient in English which will help the players to communicate with him. He also represented his national team at the 1990 World Cup. Nelo Vingada Nelo Vingada (NorthEast United): Nelo Vingada, the boss is commonly known as ‘The Professor’, led the Portugal U-20 team to finish third in the FIFA under-20 World Cup and earlier winning it twice along with the acclaimed Manager Carlos Queiroz. He holds a unique distinction of leading Egyptian side Zamalek FC to the title without losing a single game in the season and is now hoping to do the same with the young talent of NEUFC. The North East franchise is hoping that Vingada’s profound international experience and tutelage will help them to claim their stake in the upcoming season. MOLINA Jose Molina (Atletico de Kolkata): The Kolkata franchise will be missing their favourite boss Antonio Lopez Habas for sure. The new boss Jose Molina represented his national side Spain at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and two European Championships the UEFA Euro 1996 and Euro 2000. Molina’s club career was largely related with the ATK co-owner Atletico de Madrid, for whom he featured in 189 matches over a period of five years as the goalkeeper. As a player, Molina went on to win the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles with Atlético de Madrid in their famous 1995-96 season before joining La Liga giant Deportivo La Coruna with whom he once again lifted the Copa del Rey trophy. He was really successful for Kitchee FC as manager.
