Xtra Time Web Desk : Gokulam Kerala FC on Saturday defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club by a margin of 2-1 to defend their I League title, as they played some tidy football to restrict the club from West Bengal to clinch their historic maiden title.
Playing on their home ground, Mohammedan were the favourites from the start. But the defiant Gokulam Kerala were reluctant from the word go to not let their opponents take the home advantage.
Despite playing some good football, both Mohammedan & Gokulam weren’t able to score in the first half, thus keeping the scoreline to a 0-0. But in the second half, things changed as the team from Kerala took the lead through Rishad on the 49th minute mark, before Azharuddin Mallik equalised on the 57th minute.
It was Benny on the 61st minute, who gave the final blow to the I League hopes of the Black Panthers and their fans, scoring for Gokulam Kerala FC to hand over their 2nd successive title.
