Xtra Time Web Desk: Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is contemplating withdrawing from the ongoing French Open 2021 despite reaching Round 4. Federer had to battle for almost four hours to get past Dominik Koepfer in Round 3 match to book a place in the Round of 16. It was just inspirational to see him determined to fight it out even at the age of 39 years ( will be 40 in two months time) despite surgeries in both knees.

“I don’t know if I am going to play. I have to decide whether or not to continue playing. Is it too risky to keep putting pressure on the knee? Is it a good time to rest?” said Roger Federer after the match.

In a reply to a tweet from British tennis star Andy Murray, Federer said he is looking forward to playing against him at the Wimbledon which starts from June 28.

In fact both Roger Federer and Roland Garros might have hinted at his withdrawal with cryptic tweets without officially confirming it. Federer posted a tweet with pictures of Court Philippe Chatrier stadium saying, “There’s nothing quite like it.”

The official twitter handle of Roland Garros posted an image of Federer with the caption, “See you soon, bye”.

Federer was supposed to meet Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the Round of 16 in less than 24 hours. It will definitely take a toll on the knees of the Swiss legend. The champion of 20 Grand Slams decided to undergo knee sugeries in 2020 to prolong his professional career.
