Internet Desk: There is some good news for Mohun Bagan fans after the Green and Maroon brigade failed to grab the I-League title for the consecutive title. On Monday, during the FPAI awards ceremony the crew gave away the respective awards to the players and coach in Mumbai.

The Mariners star goalkeeper Debjit Majumdar was awarded the FPAI Fans player of the year while Jeje Lalpekhlua was awarded with the Best player of the year.

Mohun Bagan’s Debjit Majumder has beaten competition from as many as nine players to win the cherished award.

Majumder has played 14 games for Mohun Bagan, the club with the best defensive record, in the I-League 2015-16 season. The former Mumbai City FC goalkeeper put in a top performance in Mohun Bagan’s Asian Champions League (ACL) play-off against Singapore’s Tampines Rovers as they won 3-1 to move into the next round.

Mohun Bagan team-mate Jeje Lalpekhlua collected the award on Majumder’s behalf on Monday.

After having won the Best Young Player at the Football Players Association of India’s (FPAI) Indian Football Awards back in 2011, it took Jeje Lalpekhlua five more years to be honoured with the Indian Player of the Year title.

With three goals in as many matches, the India international played a crucial role in India clinching the SAFF Championships in January this year after having won the Indian Super League (ISL) title with Chennaiyin FC where he scored six goals.

The Nigerian striker of East Bengal has been won his third award in the Best Foreign Player category. Martins, who finished as top scorer in the I-League 2015-16 season with 12 goals from 16 matches, beat competition from the likes of Darryl Duffy (Salgaocar FC) and the Mohun Bagan’s attacking trident of Katsumi Yusa, Cornell Glen and Sony Norde.

Bengaluru FC’s Udanta Singh has won the prestigious Young Player of the Year award at Football Players Association’s (FPAI) Indian Football Awards, Mumbai on Monday evening.

He beat competition from Abinash Ruidas (East Bengal), Jayesh Rane (Chennaiyin FC & Mumbai FC), Malsawmzuala (Bengaluru FC) and Nicholas Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa)to win the coveted trophy.

Udanta has made 16 appearances for the Blues this season in all competitions and has a goal to his name. His pace on the wings has certainly caught the attention of football fans and it wasn’t surprising to see India coach Stephen Constantine hand him a debut against Iran in a 2018 World Cup qualifier tie in Tehran.

Back in July last year, the 19-year-old made his debut for England’s Oxford United in the 85th minute in a friendly against Benfica’s ‘B’ side at St. George’s Park, Burton.

Constantine had remarked in March that the attacking player has all the tools to excel in the years to come.
