Former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s security upgraded from Y to Z category

Xtra Time Web Desk: The West Bengal Government has decided to upgrade the security of former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly from Y to Z category. The former BCCI President will get the same security arrangements as the Chief Minister and Governor of the state.

In a meeting held at Sourav’s Behala residence on May 16, it was decided that he will get Z category after the expiry of the tenure of Y category security.

What will the Z category security arrangements be in place for Ganguly now. Everywhere he moves there will be 8-10 police personnel. No one will be allowed to enter the residence of Sourav until he/she gets permission from security personnel. There will be a small police booth in front of Ganguly’s 2/6 Biren Roy Road residence.

Normally Z category security arrangements includes 22 personnel, including 4-6 NSG commandos and police personnel.

The former India captain used to get three policemen from the Special Branch and an equal no of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence.

On Tuesday, representatives of the state secretariat reached Ganguly’s Behala office where they held a meeting with officers from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar and the local police station.
