Xtratime Webdesk: Spanish football has been left mourning after CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda died at the age of 30 following a serious on-field collision during the club’s match against FC Andorra.
The tragedy unfolded late in Monday’s Spanish Liga Segunda fixture at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. With the match level at 2-2, De Miguel was challenging for a long ball when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his area. The two players collided, with Owono’s knee striking De Miguel in the chest.
During the match, De Miguel collapsed completely motionless following a violent collision on the pitch and was left unconscious. Medical staff rushed to his aid, providing urgent care on the field for several minutes before he was placed in an ambulance. On the way to the hospital, he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and required successful resuscitation by emergency personnel before being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.
Tenerife later revealed that De Miguel had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. Medical personnel performed CPR and successfully restored his pulse. The club said he was breathing on his own but remained unconscious and was admitted to the intensive care unit in a critical condition.
However, his condition deteriorated. Tenerife announced in the early hours of Tuesday that De Miguel’s medical situation had worsened neurologically. Despite the efforts of the medical team, the striker died at 8:00 a.m. local time on November 3.
Tenerife confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional statement, expressing its support for De Miguel’s family, loved ones and the wider Tenerife community. His family has also requested privacy during the difficult period.
De Miguel began his senior career with Leganés B in 2015 and went on to represent several Spanish clubs before joining Tenerife in 2025. His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences across Spanish football, with clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona paying tribute to the 30-year-old forward.
