Xtratime Webdesk: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced that football fans who had purchased tickets for Lionel Messi’s G.O.A.T. A tour event in Kolkata last December will be provided complimentary passes for the India-Uruguay match on October 6.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made the announcement to the media after India’s 0-4 defeat to Brazil at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on October 3. He said the decision was being taken as a goodwill gesture for those who had bought tickets for the Messi event.

The announcement comes months after the controversy surrounding Messi’s much-anticipated visit to Kolkata on December 13, 2025, with several ticket holders raising concerns over their experience at the event.

The complimentary passes will allow eligible ticket holders to attend India’s international friendly against Uruguay at the same venue on Tuesday.

Sports Minister Dr Indranil Khan later shared the detailed collection procedure on his official X account. According to his post, the physical complimentary passes can be collected on October 5 between 11 am and 5 pm.

Those eligible to collect the passes have to produce a valid government-issued photo identity proof, including a Voter Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence or Passport, along with the previously purchased paid ticket for the Messi G.O.A.T. Tour event.

Passes will be available from several collection points across Kolkata and its surrounding areas. These include Mohit Maitra Mancha, Milan Manjari Community Hall, Abhayan Community Hall, Udjapan Community Hall, Subhanandan Community Hall, Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Bidhannagar Municipality Sports Complex and Rajarhat Gopalpur Swimming Pool.

The arrangement is aimed at ensuring that those who had invested in the Messi event can now attend another major international football occasion in Kolkata.

Sharing the collection details, Khan said the passes were being issued in accordance with the Chief Minister’s commitment and as a goodwill gesture towards the ticket holders.

With India set to face Uruguay on October 6, the move provides those fans an opportunity to return to the Salt Lake stadium and watch the Blue Tigers in another high-profile international fixture.
