Kolkata: Sudeshna Mukherjee Nag is flooded with greetings and wishes from Mohun Bagan officials Srinjoy Basu, Debasish Dutta, East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar to IFA Secretary Utpal Ganguly and AIFF vice-president Subrata Dutta for becoming the first Woman Match commissioner of Bengal. She also became the second match commissioner of the country.

Before her, the first Woman Match commissioner of India was Shillong-Lajong’s Zenith. Sudeshna is highly emphatic on her achievement and she said, “I was determined to pass the test.”

A total of 23 candidates gave the exam at East Bengal tent where 4 were women while other being men. Among the women, one hailed from north-east, while 2 hailed from Delhi and Sudeshna from Bengal. Out of the 4 girls, Sudeshna was the only woman who passed the test.

“Last year I couldn’t pass the test so I was determined to pass it this year. My father is ill still I managed to give the exam. I am excited on being the Match Commissioner. Apart from the blessings of my dad I got a lot of support from my in-laws” said Sudeshna.

However she wants to enjoy her new added duties. Earlier she worked as the Women’s Manager while now she will work as the Match Commissioner. Tough Zenith being the first Match Commissioner she worked in her state, however Sudeshna wants to reach other places and her next aim is to become the Match Commissioner for AFC Matches similarly to European countries where Women Match Commissioners are very common.

Football being her favourite game, she regularly attended games with her father Debu Mukherjee from an early age. Her father founded the Taltala Deepti Sangha which is now being managed by Sudeshna owing to her father’s illness.
