Kolkata: With the I-League drought of 14 years for East Bengal, team skipper Arnab Mondal and co players under the command of coach Khalid Jamil are desperate to bring the trophy home.

“The aim at the beginning of the season was to win the CFL for a record 8 times which we did. This year there has been new additions in the team who has adjusted themselves in the squad by playing in the CFL. The team is in a good shape and we had also performed well against the ISL clubs in the pre-season games and right now we want to strongly focus in the I-League” said Arnab Mondal.

The Red and Gold brigade will be facing the defending champions Aizawl FC in their first game at home on November 28.”The first match of the tournament is very important. If we can perform well in the first match then we can play the next games with greater confidence. No team in the league is weak. If we can win the majority of the home games then that would be a bonus in the later part of the league” added Arnab.

The highly awaited Kolkata-derby will take place on December 3 which will be the second match for both the Kolkata giants to which Arnab added, “Pressure would be on both the teams”

With many stars in the midfield like Mahmoud Al Amna and Katsumi Yusa, the star defender said, “the coach is relieved when he has good midfielders”.

Three players Brendon, Arnab and Gurwinder urged their fans to support the club in their respective mother languages i.e. Mizo, Bengali and Punjabi.
