Kolkata: Phil Foden arrives as the hero, as England made perhaps the most remarkable comeback in the history of the FIFA U17 World Cup here at Kolkata in front of a record 66,684 attendance. The Young Lions were trailing by 0-2 early in the first half, despite some terrific attacking display in the opening minutes. But then an unbelievable story of five amazing goals turned the things around to give the Lions the first FIFA U17 World Cup title in the history.

Sergio Gomez put Spain in front in the 10th minute of the game as Ruiz got the ball at his feet and immediately found a surging Miranda who crossed into the centre of the box. Panzo rose high and got his defensive header horribly wrong. Gomez, lurking in the area, pounced on the loose header and guided it into the net.

England ripped apart by a wonderful Spanish counter in the 31t minute. Guehi surged forward with the ball from defence and lost possession. Spain countered through Ruiz whose change of pace allowed him to pass it onto Gelabert in the centre of the box. The No.18, with his back to the goal, looped the ball sideways to an onrushing Gomez who aimed for the corner and succeeded.

England started to change the things around   just before the half time when Brewster headed England back into the game. Right-back Sessegnon crossed deliciously into the centre of the box where the tournament topscorer Rhian Brewster met the ball with his head before Guillamon could in the 44th minute.

England made it 2-2 in the 58th minute From 2-0 down. Sessegno utilized the space left by Miranda and crossed low into the box where the ball met the legs of Gibbs-White who tapped the ball in.

England took the lead in the 67th minute through Phil Foden when George McEachran nicked the ball in midfield before playing a perfectly weighted through-ball to Hudson-Odoi. The left winger surged forward and delivered a low cross that met Foden at the far post who made no mistake with his right foot.

England started to become ruthless from the 84th minute Hudson-Odoi sent a free-kick into the box and it caused havoc. Panzo attempted to convert the loose ball inside the box but instead ended up putting the ball in front of defender Guehi who blasted the ball into the net.

The final nail on the coffin for the Spaniards came in the 88th minute when England scored their fifth through Foden, who had performed brilliantly tonight. Hudson-Odoi charged at the Spain defence, drawing them away from an onrushing Foden. The Manchester City starlet received the ball at his feet and sent it into the net.

England’s long drought of titles in the FIFA competitions seems to have the seen the milky way for the future the English have been dreaming since 1966.
