Xtra Time Web Desk: Former West Indies legend Brian Lara on Friday heaped huge praises on Virat Kohli after he reached his 29th test ton on Day 2 of the ongoing second test match against West Indies. Kohli scored a brilliant 121 runs in 206 deliveries.  His excellent knock garnered praise from all across the world, and the legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara was another pundit lauding the sheer excellence of Kohli.

In an exclusive chat with this correspondent, Lara said, "He’s a great player, someone like that, you are not going to keep them down for long. If you do, some people have to pay at the end of the day. The way he has looked in the IPL and recently, he’s just an awesome player, and you can't expect someone like that to be down for long."

He added, “The way he batted in the IPL was tremendous and he is just an awesome player. He would want his test average to be back into the 50s. He would want to finish in the late 50s so he has got to score a lot of runs and he has it in him. He is disciplined, committed and he is a joy to watch. I think people around the world loves to see Virat Kohli bat.”

Regarded as Prince of Trinidad, Lara is currently associated with several social and community activities across the county. He has recently decided to be part of a noble initiative in partnership with the Heroes Foundation and SAVE- Sport Against Violent Energy to highlight the vital role that sport can play in nurturing Trinidad's youth, fostering vibrant communities, and consequently making great strides in curbing negative influences.

Lara was seen spending time with the underprivileged kids during the second day’s play at the Queens Park Oval. The Prince of Trinidad signed autographs for the kids, posed for selfies and also chatted with the little kids. The initiative will bring together 1500 young people nationwide from over 25 schools and organisations.
