Exclusive | Wanna repeat the sten-gun celebration again in the derby: Sony Norde

Sabyasachi Bagchi: It was a disappointing injury, which led Haitian winger Sony Norde to leave Mohun Bagan in tears last season. It was 22nd January, 2018, when the Bagan heart-throb promised Bagan official Tutu Bose that he will surely make a comeback to the club and that too with full fitness. The talisman has kept his words, as he is all set to join the Mariners in few days time. After signing for the club, he gave an exclusive interview to www.xtratime.in journalist Sabyasachi Bagchi. Here goes the conversation:

XT: Every Mohun Bagan fan is happy here in Kolkata. But the question is surrounding your fitness.

Sony: I am 100% fit. That is why I have decided to give a fitness test and also ready to undergo a medical. I am confident on proving my fitness. I had my operation in February. I continued my recovery until August. In the last few months I had rigorous strength trainings followed by “with the ball” trainings. I am hungry to perform for Mohun Bagan.

XT: It is learned that Dr Mariano Chakon played a big role behind your comeback.

Sony: In the last season I went to Argentina directly from Kolkata. Dr Chakon from Mendoza Hospital helped me a lot there. I had been suffering from two vital injuries at that time. One at the ACL and the other one was at the Inner Meniscus. He did the operation with a lot of patience. He is the reason why this quick recovery has been possible.

XT: Srinjoy Bose, Debashis Dutta and all the Mohun Bagan fans are eagerly waiting for you. There will be some serious pressure on you.

Sony: That is quite obvious. I am quite used to with it. I know them for four long years and both of them are my close friends. They are the reason why I don’t miss my family despite being away from my family. The fans too gave me a lot of love. I promise to make this comeback with a lot of aggression.

XT: When are you coming to Kolkata?

Sony: After the training in the morning, I will apply for the visa after that. Hopefully, will be there in Kolkata in 10 days’ time.

XT: The team becomes stronger after your arrival. Hopeful of winning the I-League?

Sony: No player wants to lose. Wanna win all the games in that jersey. The combination has to be good to win a competition like I-League. When we have a gaffer like Sanakarlal, there won’t be any dearth of planning. I am hopeful of winning.

XT: East Bengal, your arch rivals have formed an expensive squad. They are having their pre-season in Malaysia at the moment with their Spanish coach. Any pressure?

Sony: Best wishes to their Spanish coach and Costa Rican player. But we are confident and the game would be played on the ground and on a paper.

XT: Did East Bengal have an offer for you to sign for them ťhis season?

Sony: Not just East Bengal, I had offers from multiple ISL clubs as well. But my focus was always Mohun Bagan. Can’t think anything beyond Mohun Bagan.

XT: You posted a controversial post on Tuesday night and then deleted it. Reasons?

Sony: Actually, I was getting frustrated. I was getting puzzled to prove myself fit. That was just an outburst of that. Wanna look forward from that.

XT: Would you like to trigger your ‘sten gun celebration’ again at the VYBK on 16th September?

Sony: Oh my word! Can’t forget that derby at Siliguri. Not just my celebration, Azhar too scored a brilliant goal that day. If I get another chance to celebrate by the God’s grace, will surely trigger the ‘sten-gun’ celebration in the derby.

XT: Last question. Your little daughter Hanni turned out to be very lucky for you. What say?

Sony: You can say. I heard that daughters bring luck with them, now realized. My first goal for Mohun Bagan this season will be dedicated to her.
