Debasis Sen, Johannesburg: India’s ace fast bowler and one of the biggest pride of Bengal cricket, Mohammed Shami and his family got humiliated today at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Shami’s wife was present at the programme as the West Bengal Government invited Shami to confer the Khel Sanman Award on Wednesday.

Quite surprisingly, despite inviting him, the Government didn’t call up his family members on the stage to receive the award. Shami is busy at the moment in Johannesburg, as India is playing against South Africa in the third test match.

No doubt, Shami’s family felt terribly insulted and embarrassed with the entire matter but didn’t make too much buzz on the ground of courtesy.

A close family member of Shami who didn’t want to be quoted said that Shami always respected West Bengal and considers it as his own state. The family members are upset with the gesture from the state government.

The above letter is telling the story about the unfortunate matter and also depicts the laccadaisical approach of the State Government.
