EURO 2020: Sweden win five goal thriller against Poland to end on top of Group E, Spain thrash Slovakia 5-0

Sweden defeated Poland 3-2 on Wednesday to top Group E in EURO 2020

Xtra Time Web Desk: An injury time goal from Victor Claesson helped Sweden win a five goal thriller in EURO 2020 Group E clash against Poland at the Krestovsky stadium on Wednesday. The win saw Sweden finish group on top with 7 points from three matches followed by Spain on 5 points.

Emil Frosberg gave Sweden an early lead in the 2nd minute of the match. Forsberg received a high cross at the edge of the box from Isak and drilled it into the far corner. He was again on target in the 59th minute. Substitute Kulusevski ran down the right flank and found Frisberg in the centre in the open. He made no mistake with a right footer that found the back of the net.

Poland pulled one goal back two minutes later through Robert Lewandowski as the striker scored a screamer from 20 yards on the left.  The Bayern Munich striker was on target again in the 84’ as Poland equalized. As it looked like the match was heading for a 2-2 stalemate, Victor Claesson scored the winner in 90+3’  

The win saw Sweden on top of Group E as they will now face Czech Republic in the last 16.

In another Group E encounter Spain thrashed Slovakia 5-0 to seal a place in last 16. Martin Dubravka scored an own goal to give Spain the lead in the half hour mark.  Aymeric Laporte extended the lead just at the stroke of half time. He rose high to net his first goal for his country after the goalkeeper had gone walkabout. Pablo Sarabia made it 3-0 for Spain in the 56th minute as he swept home Jordi Alba’s low ball.  Ferran Torres then scored a deft back heel flick with his first touch in the 67th minute. Juraj Kucka scored another own goal for Slovakia to finish the night with a 5-0 margin.

Spain will face Croatia in Copenhagen in their last-16 tie on Monday, June 28.
