Xtra Time Web Desk: Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice from penalty as reigning champions Portugal played out a thrilling  2-2 draw against France in EURO 2020 Group F clash at the Puskas Arena on Wednesday night. Despite the draw, Didier Deschamps’ side secured top spot in Group F, while Portugal still qualified for the last 16 as one of four best third-place finishers.

It was a match marred by controversial penalty decisions as former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo (30’) and Karmim Benzema (45+2’) scored from the spot kicks to leave both sides 1-1 going into the breather.

Benzema gave France the lead early in the second half. He did not celebrate as the linesman signaled off-side but the decision was reversed by VAR, much to the joy of the French supporters at the stadium.

It looked like Portugal will crash out of the tournament, before Ronaldo converted his second penalty (60) – his fifth goal of the tournament. Ronaldo also equaled Ali Daei of Iran who has also score 109th international goals.

Portugal will now face Belgium in the last 16 on Sunday while France will take on Switzerland.
