Euro 2020: Italy kick starts campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Turkey

Xtra Time Web Desk: Italy kicked off its Euro 2020 campaign in style with a dominant 3-0 win over Turkey at the Olimpico stadium in the Group A opener of UEFA EURO 2020. Ciro Immobile (66’) and Lorenzo Insigne (79’) were on target for the Azzurri’s . Merih Demirah (53’) scored an own goal.  

It was a clinical performance from Roberto Mancini’s side despite Turkey frustrating them in the first half. The deadlock was eventually broken when Merih Demiral scored an own goal in the 53rd minute trying to clear a cross from Domenico Berardi.

The lead saw the home side have more purpose in their attack as they added to their tally with goals from Ciro Immobile (66’) and Lorenzo Insigne (79’).

Roberto Mancini’s side are now unbeaten in 28 internationals, winning 25 of them. Last time the Azzurri’s lost was against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League in Lisbon in 2018.

Earlier, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli opened the tournament singing Italia ’90 anthem Nessun Dorma on the pitch.

On Saturday (June 12), Wales take on Switzerland in Group A encounter at Baku at 6:30 pm IST. In Group B, Denmark hosts Finland at Parken stadium in Copenhagen (9:30 pm IST) while in another Group B clash Belgium take on Russia at St Petersburg (12:30pm IST).
