Xtra Time Web Desk: Hosts Germany registered their first win in EURO 2020 by thumping Portugal 4-2 in Group F clash at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night. Three time European winners made a big statement after losing the first match to World champions France.

It was Portugal who took the lead in the 15th minute through Cristiano Ronaldo from a counter attack. It was Ronaldo’s 107th international goal as well. The game turned on its head when Portugal defenders Ruben Dias (35’) and Raphael Guerreiro (39’) each turned the ball into their own net. It is the first time in major tournament history a team has scored two own goals in a game and it was just the lift Germany needed.

In the second half, Kai Havertz (51) and Robin Gosens (60’) made it 4-1 for the hosts before Diogo Jota pulled one back for Portugal in the 67th minute.

Portugal has now slipped to third position in Group of Death. They will need all the inspiration from their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo when they face World champions France next.
