Xtra Time Web Desk: The England football team was punished by UEFA ahead of their big EURO 2020 final against Italy at Wembley. UEFA imposed a fine of Euros 30000 for a laser light pointed at Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schemeichel during England’s semi final clash at the same venue. TV pictures showed a green light being pointed on the face of Leicester City goalkeeper as Harry Kane lined up his spot-kick. Schmeichel saved Kane’s initial shot but was beaten on the rebound for what proved the decisive goal.

The governing body of European football also sanctioned the FA after some fans booed the Danish national anthem and set off fireworks.

The Football Association was charged with three offences and the sanctions were imposed following consideration by UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body.

A statement from UEFA read: “The CEDB has decided to fine the English Football Association 30,000 euros for the use of laser pointer, disturbances during the national anthems and setting of fireworks.”
