Xtra Time Web Desk : The English premier league has decided to restart it’s emergency COVID measures in order to restrict the latest spread of the deadly virus. The matches will now be played in stadiums with limited spectators maintaining all the protocols till the the latest wave minimises.

All of this started with the cancellation of Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League match between Tottenham and Rennes was postponed as eight of the North London club’s players and five of it’s support staff were tested positive. This also led to the cancellation of their match against Brighton that was about to happen this weekend.

On the other hand the match between Norwich and Manchester United, which is about to be played this weekend is also doubtful as the Norwich manager expressed his worries regarding his players PCR results stating, “We have got a couple of knocks and have got a couple of Covid-related issues that we are waiting on results for this morning. I can’t really let you in on any names, but there’s a couple of players whom we are worried about, so we have tested and we will wait for the PCR results back on them. They are just feeling a little bit unwell, not likely to be linked to the game last week with Tottenham. It is just in general, I think with the whole nation, holding our breath at the moment.”

Apart from Norwich manager Dean Smith, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard also expressed his concerns over this issue. Sympathizing with Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, the former England captain said, “We have been told and warned that things are changing all the time, just to be careful and look after ourselves. It’s a concern for myself and every other manager. There was a situation here before I came and you’ve always got that lingering paranoia abut the what ifs. It is a virus that has not gone. We’re not through the woods and it’s changing all the time.”

Now, with the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tightening the COVID restrictions, it will be intriguing to see how it affects English football.
