England better own world record in ODIs ; post 498 runs against Netherlands

Xtra Time Web Desk: England have bettered their own world record as they posted a massive 498 runs in the first ODI against Netherlands. Eoin Morgan and his team broke their previous highest record of 481/6 they posted against Australia in 2018.

Batting first after Eoin Morgan lost the toss, England batters took charge from the second over. Philip Salt (122 off 93) and Dawid Malan (125 off 109) reached their hundreds but the real charge was left to Jos Buttler (162 off 70) and Liam Livingstone (66 off 22). The later reached the second fastest fifty in ODI cricket in just 17 balls. AB de Villiers holds the record for the fastest ODI fifty in just 16 balls. At the end of the first innings, England posted 498/4, which was also the highest total in ODI cricket.

Interestingly, the top 3 highest runs score in ODI are all made by England. 498/4 vs Netherlands, 481 vs Australia and 444/3 vs Pakistan.

England also broke the World Record for the highest number of sixes hit in a single inning of an ODI game. They hit 26 sixes against Netherlands. The previous best was 25 which England hit against Afghanistan.

England became the second team ever in the history of ODI cricket where three batters score a century each. Jos Buttler, Philip Salt, and Dawid Malan scored tons for England. The only other team to have achieved this feat twice is South Africa.
