England beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets and won the series 2-0

XtraTime Web Desk – An important series victory for England against Sri Lanka with the big India series coming up.

With Angelo Matthews hundred and Dickwella’s 92, Sri Lanka put up a competitive total of 381 runs in the first innings. England countered that well as Joe Root missed his double century by just 14 runs as he was dismissed for 186 runs and England posed a total of 344 runs. Embuldeniya was magnificent with the bowl. He picked up 7 wickets in the first innings and put Sri Lanka in the driver’s seat after the first innings as they were leading by 37 runs.

Sri Lanka couldn’t take advantage of their lead. They put up 126 in the second innings as Embuldeniya scored 40 runs, their higesht run getter in the second innings. Interestingly, England’s captain Joe Root picked up 2 wickets while Dom Bess and Jack Leach picked up 4 each.

Since the ball started spinning, Sri Lanka were once again heavily depended on Embuldeniya. He did his best and picked up 3 wickets but a target of 164 was not enough. Sri Lanka lost the match by 6 wickets as England opener hit 56 runs while Jos Buttler scored 46.

With India series coming soon, this series win will heavily boost England players as they have now spent enough time in subcontinent pitches. England team will be coming to India on Wednesday and will be in quarantine for three days before they resume their practice.
