Edgbaston to investigate racist abuse of India fans during Day 4 | ENGvIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: Edgbaston authorities will investigate racist abuse of Indian supporters during day 4 of the ongoing test between India and England Test at the Edgbaston cricket ground on Monday. Fans were said to be in tears after the “worst abuse ever experienced”.

Stewards allegedly told those who reported the abuse to “sit down”. On social media, fans reported their experience after the close of play.

Edgbaston confirmed: “We’re incredible sorry to read this and do not condone this behaviour in any way. We’ll be investigating this ASAP.” The England and Wales Cricket Board said: “We are very concerned to hear reports of racist abuse at today’s Test match. We are in contact with colleagues at Edgbaston who will investigate. There is no place for racism in cricket.”

An Indian fan seated at the Eric Hollies stand wrote his experience on Twitter. He wrote: “Racist behaviour at Edgbaston towards Indian fans… People calling us Curry c**ts and P*** b******ds.

“We reported it to the stewards and showed them the culprits at least ten times but no response and all we were told is to sit in our seats.” He added: “Please can you spread this message. We had women literally in tears when @ECB_cricket fans were threatening us.

“Slitting their throats looking at us calling us all sorts of names.” Kushal Malde said: “Some disgusting racism (‘you smelly P***s’ for example).

“The stewards actually told the Indian fans to sit down whilst allowing the abuse to go ahead.”
