Eden Gardens and Chepauk among shortlisted venues for India versus Pakistan clash in World Cup 2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: If things go according to plans, then the marquee India versus Pakistan clash in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be staged in India. International Cricket Council in discussion with all its stakeholders have shortlisted three venues for the much-anticipated clash between the two Asian powerhouses. The three venues are Eden Gardens in Kolkata, M Chidambaram stadium in Chennai and Sher e Bangla stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

According to a report in RevSportz, Eden Gardens is the frontrunner to stage the high-profile fixture, followed by Chepauk. If Pakistan Cricket Board is adamant about not playing against India in India, then the match will be shifted to Dhaka. Earlier, PCB threatened that if India does not come to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup 2023, they will boycott ODI World Cup in India.

The International Cricket Council has not announced anything about the venue officially.

The Pakistan cricket team last played a match at the Eden Gardens was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. MS Dhoni led India prevailed over Shahid Afridi’s team by 6 wickets. During the 2011 World Cup, Pakistan played the semi-final match at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali, Punjab.

As far as the World Cup 2023 is concerned, each venue is likely to host four matches with Narendra Modi Stadium likely to host the final match.
