Mumbai City FC with the ISL shield.

XtraTime Web Desk – The dream is over for ATK Mohun Bagan as they lost 2-0 against Mumbai City FC. With the win, Mumbai won the ISL shield trophy and thus qualified for the prestigious AFC Champions League.

Mumbai were all over ATK Mohun Bagan in the first half. They scored a quick goal as Mourtada Fall once again scored for the Islanders. In the 7th minute mark, from a set piece, Fall’s header put Mariners behind.

Mariners got the second blow in 15th minute. Sandesh Jhingan got injured and in the 19th minute, he was substituted and was replaced by Prabir Das. Pritam Kotal was playing in the left back position with Manvir Singh on the right back but that was just during their defensive approach. They played 3-4-3 with the ball and thus Mumbai exploited their defence. Ogbeche scored in the 39th minute and no doubt it was a mountain to climb for ATK Mohun Bagan who were very poor in the first half.

Coach Antonio Lopez Habas made two changes the second half. To everyone’s surprise, Tiri got substituted and Edu Garcia was brought in. Also, Salam Singh replaced Lenny Rodriguez. The changes didn’t change their fate though.

The Mariners did create good chances in the second half. Prabir Das’ long range shot hit the post in the 60th minute. If Mariners would’ve got that goal, things could’ve been different.

They created more and more opportunities but Mumbai defence was heavy on the Mariners. They didn’t give any chance and after putting a lot of effort, ATK Mohun Bagan lose to Mumbai City FC. They both finished on 40 points but because of a better head to head record, Mumbai City clinched the title.
