Borussia Dortmund wins the DFB Pokal title as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck in the second half to secure the final in Dortmund’s favour. Dortmund defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in a highly entertaining battle.

Dortmund took the lead after just eight minutes as Ousmane Dembele did well to skip past his marker, before rifling the ball into the top corner.

After a quiet start to the encounter, Frankfurt leveled matters after 31 minutes. Mijat Gacinovic played in Ante Rebic, who did well slot home from close range.

Frankfurt nearly pulled ahead eight minutes but Haris Seferovic’s effort from distance crashed against the post with Roman Burki well beaten.

That proved to be the final chance of the half, as the sides went into the break with the score locked at 1-1.

Dortmund nearly restored their lead in the 51st minutes when Shinji Kagawa’s effort was cleared off the line.

Thomas Tuchel’s charges were then awarded a penalty in the 66th minute when Christian Pulisic was brought down. Aubameyang stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 1-2.

Frankfurt had a chance to level matters in the 80th minute but Meier’s close range effort was deflected just wide of Burki’s upright.

Dortmund nearly bagged a third goal five minutes later but Aubameyang’s curling strike rattled the upright.

Nonetheless, Tuchel managed to see out the remaining stages of the second half to claim the DFB Pokal trophy.
