Kolkata: Atletico de Kolkata edged past Delhi Dynamos at the battle of the unbeaten sides here at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday. Both the sides had ample of opportunities and were awarded a penalty each but it was the home side who managed to convert its share of luck to come out on top and reach the second position on the 2016 Indian Super League table. It was Iain Hume who had scored the winner on behalf of the Red and White brigade minutes after Zambrotta’s men squandered their chance to go up against a 10-men Atletico de Kolkata side in the dying hours of the game.

The former Italian World Cupper – although, had no complaints about the refereeing in the match – didn’t seem particularly content about the performance of his team. “I thought my side was well prepared for the match against Atletico de Kolkata. But we made a number of mistakes throughout the course of the match including the missed penalty kick. I hope that my team will learn from the mistakes that we had committed tonight in order to play a much better brand of football in the future,” Zambrotta told the press. Furthermore, the 39-year-old former Juventus man not only embraced his team’s mistakes on the field, he further added, “I think we could’ve easily killed the game tonight midway into the second half. We received a penalty, we had a numerical advantage over our opponents… but it didn’t happen. I feel that we need to improve on this aspect of our game if we want to do well in the league.”

Atletico de Kolkata Head Coach, Jose Molina – on the other hand – was over the moon with his side’s 2-3-0 record in the 2016 edition of the Hero ISL. “I am extremely happy with the performance of my team. I think we did a great job. Yes, we did get a lot of chances to score which we eventually missed but we dominated the match and it pleases me to a great extent.” The Spanish coach also seemed to be thrilled with the performance of his goalkeeper, Debjit Majumder who made a number of important saves to keep his side in the hunt. “I am very happy with the performance of Debjit (Majumder). I think he had a terrific outing tonight. He has been impressive in training right from day one. And I feel that tonight he proved everybody how good a goalkeeper he is,” Molina briefed. Saturday’s Hero of the Match, Iain Hume was also ecstatic with his side’s victory over Delhi Dynamos at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. However, he also revealed that he would like to score more goals for Atletico de Kolkata in the future and would be even more pleased if the majority of those don’t come from the penalty spot.
