Spectator numbers do not drop when a superstar retires; Virender Sehwag shares his clear view regarding the potential retirement of Kohli and Rohit

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Test and T20 cricket. As a result, has the number of cricket viewers in India decreased? This question has suddenly cropped up. However, Virender Sehwag does not believe that anything of the sort has happened, or ever will.

Seeru [Sehwag] explicitly stated that when legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Sachin Tendulkar retired, similar discussions took place. But no such decline occurred. Explaining his view, he noted that when a favorite cricketer retires, some of their fans might temporarily stop watching the game, but overall, it does not make a significant impact.

Sehwag mentioned that he has heard many people say about someone, "If you stop playing, I will stop watching cricket too." But in reality, that does not happen. His clear stance is that the game is much bigger than any individual star.

True to his batting style, Sehwag was blunt and straightforward. He remarked that many people say they watch cricket for Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. But people used to say the exact same thing back then—that they watched the game for Sunil Gavaskar or Sachin Tendulkar. However, the actual picture has always been different.
