Xtratime Webdesk: Babar Azam’s prolonged struggle for runs has prompted former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf to suggest the star batter seek specialist coaching overseas. Yousuf has advised Babar to travel to Australia or South Africa and devote his time to addressing technical issues in his game.
The recommendation comes after another disappointing outing in the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka. Babar was dismissed for a five-ball duck as the team chased a target of 326. Although the hosts secured a three-wicket victory to lift the trophy, the batter’s failure added to the scrutiny surrounding his form.
Babar managed only 118 runs in five matches during the tri-series. His ODI record has also become a concern: he has scored just one century in the format over the last three years. Once regarded as one of Pakistan’s most dependable run-getters, he is now facing questions about his place in the team’s white-ball plans.
Yousuf feels that returning to domestic first-class cricket may not be enough to solve the problem. Speaking on social media, he suggested that Babar should work on his batting in Australia or South Africa. The focus, in his view, should be on identifying and correcting technical flaws rather than relying only on match practice.
The advice arrives at a crucial stage of Babar’s career. He has already been left out of Pakistan’s T20I setup, while the 2027 ODI World Cup is approaching. His place in the one-day side is therefore under scrutiny, even as Pakistan look to make the most of his experience.
Babar is scheduled to feature for Lahore in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy from November 3, ahead of Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka beginning on November 9.
