India Snub, Seven-Wicket Reply: Saransh Jain Makes His Case in Ranji Trophy

Xtratime Webdesk: Being left out of India’s squad for the New Zealand Test series did little to slow down Saransh Jain. The Madhya Pradesh spinner returned to Ranji Trophy action on Monday and responded in emphatic fashion, producing the best bowling figures of his first-class career.
Jain ran through Bihar’s batting line-up with a superb 7/40 from 13 overs, helping Madhya Pradesh bowl their opponents out for just 99 in 30.3 overs. His spell was the defining performance of the innings and underlined why he had earned his India opportunity in the first place.
The 33-year-old off-spinner began his assault by removing Ayush Loharuka, Bihar captain Sakibul Gani and Akash Raj. He then continued to pick apart the batting order, dismissing Raghuvendra Pratap Singh, Aditya Raj, Suraj Kashyap and Himanshu Singh to complete a memorable seven-wicket haul.
Jain’s latest performance comes at an interesting point in his career. He made his India Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this year, earning his first cap at the age of 33. He claimed three wickets in that match but was subsequently not included in India’s squad for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand.
Rather than allowing the omission to derail his momentum, Jain has once again let his performances do the talking. His domestic record already provides a strong foundation for another opportunity at the international level. He has now played 59 first-class matches for Madhya Pradesh, taking 195 wickets and scoring 2,312 runs.
His latest seven-wicket burst therefore means more than just another impressive Ranji Trophy spell. It is a timely reminder that Jain remains firmly in the frame whenever India’s Test selectors look towards experienced domestic performers.
For now, the off-spinner’s message is clear: an international setback has not changed his hunger to remain in the conversation.
