XtraTime Webdesk: Indian captain Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books with a sensational double century against the West Indies in the second ODI at Guwahati on Wednesday. Chasing a mammoth target of 406, Gill remained unbeaten on 223 off just 133 balls, powering India to the second-highest successful chase in ODI history.
Gill reached his double century in only 117 balls, making it the fastest ODI double century ever and surpassing Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls. His breathtaking knock included 26 fours and eight sixes, while his strike rate stood at over 167.
The achievement also created a unique record in international cricket. Gill has now become the first captain to score a double century in both Test and ODI cricket. He had earlier smashed 269 against England at Edgbaston in 2025, registering his maiden Test double hundred.
Gill’s latest innings also made him only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to register multiple ODI double centuries. His first came against New Zealand in 2023, when he scored 208.
