From an Instagram Dream to a WPL Dressing Room: Nazma Khan’s Journey to Delhi Capitals

Xtratime Webdesk: A year-old Instagram message has suddenly taken on a whole new meaning for Nazma Khan. A hopeful dream of sharing a dressing room with India star Jemimah Rodrigues has now become reality after Delhi Capitals picked the young cricketer at the WPL auction.

Delhi Capitals secured Nazma for ₹10 lakh as they made a series of calculated additions to their squad. While the franchise made headlines by signing Kiran Navgire for ₹75 lakh, their decision to invest in players such as Nazma, Kashvi Kandikuppa and Kirstie Gordon also underlined a clear focus on strengthening their squad depth. For Nazma, however, the move carried a far more personal significance.

Around a year ago, she had sent Jemimah a message on Instagram expressing her admiration for the India batter and her dream of playing alongside her someday. At the time, it was simply a message from an aspiring cricketer to a player she looked up to.

After the auction, Jemimah revisited that message. She discovered the old conversation while preparing to contact her new teammate and shared the moment on social media, turning Nazma's long-held wish into one of the most heartwarming stories of the auction.

The move also reflects what the WPL has increasingly offered young Indian cricketers: an opportunity to move from domestic cricket into a high-profile environment alongside established international stars. For players like Nazma, the value of such a move goes beyond the auction price. It can mean exposure, experience and the chance to learn inside a competitive professional setup.

For Delhi Capitals, the decision is part of a larger attempt to build a squad capable of going one step further. The franchise has consistently been among the WPL's strongest teams and has reached the final in every season but is still searching for their maiden title.

Nazma's story, meanwhile, has already begun with a perfect script: a dream written on Instagram one year ago has led her straight into the Delhi Capitals dressing room.
