Bengal are on the verge of completing a hat-trick of wins in the Ranji Trophy. After defeating Delhi and Services, Abhimanyu Easwaran and his teammates are now on the brink of another outright victory, this time against Kerala. At the end of the third day, Bengal have a commanding overall lead of 355 runs, with Kerala having just six wickets remaining.
After Bengal scored 350 in their first innings and bowled Kerala out for 141, the visitors managed 198 in their second innings. This left Kerala with a target of 408 runs to win. However, at stumps on Day 3, Kerala were struggling at 53/4 in their second innings.
Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 47 in the second innings, while Sudip Chatterjee contributed 37. Mohammed Shami chipped in with a valuable 26 runs towards the end of the innings. For Kerala, Jalaj Saxena was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets, while Aditya Sarwate picked up three.
Kerala's batters then found themselves in deep trouble against Bengal spinner Pradipta Pramanik. The spinner wreaked havoc, claiming all four wickets to fall in Kerala's second innings. He conceded just 21 runs, putting Bengal firmly in control of the contest.
Bengal, coached by Laxmi Ratan Shukla, have been in outstanding form this Ranji Trophy season. They began their campaign with a convincing outright victory over the formidable Delhi side before defeating Services in similar fashion.
Now, Bengal are closing in on another outright win against Kerala. Unless something extraordinary happens on the final day, Shukla's men look well placed to make it three consecutive victories and continue their impressive run in the tournament.
