According to Viswanathan, Mohit’s name was recommended by newly appointed head coach Zaheer Khan. Mohit made a significant contribution to CSK as a player, and Viswanathan expressed hope that he will now help take the team forward in his new role as a coach.
He also revealed that, following Zaheer’s advice, CSK will finalise the rest of their coaching staff within the next few days.
Mohit last played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, but he spent a total of four years with CSK across two separate stints. He now replaces Eric Simons as the franchise’s bowling coach.
Mohit played 120 matches in the IPL and took 124 wickets. He also represented India at the 2015 World Cup under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, where he finished as the joint third-highest wicket-taker for India in the tournament.
The Haryana pacer retired from professional cricket in December last year.
Having experienced the CSK dressing room as a player, Mohit will now return to the franchise in a different capacity, working alongside Zaheer Khan as the team begins to build a new-look coaching setup.
