Image Source: ICC[/caption] Internet Desk: India played a commendable innings against their arch-rivals Pakistan as they scored 319 for four in the allotted 48 overs in their opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy today. Pakistan have to score 324 runs to win the match against India. Supporters of both the nations turned up in huge numbers despite the rain to watch their favourite teams play at Edgbaston. Pakistan after winning the toss put India to bat first. India made a slow start in the form of openers Rohit Sharma and Sikhar Dhawan after some tremendous bowling from Md. Amir and Wahab Riaz. However things took a turn when the opening duo started building momentum in form of boundaries. Both the openers build a strong partnership of 135 runs when Sikhar Dhawan was dismissed after scoring 68 runs which included 6 boundaries and one over boundary. Kohli came next and started to build a partnership with Rohit. Rain interrupted the game twice and as result the 50 over game was reduced to a 48 over game. Rohit was unfortunate to miss his hundred when he was run out after scoring 91. His innings consisted of 7 boundaries and 2 huge sixes. At a point of time the score board remained static as the Pakistan bowling attack started mounting pressure. However the Pak pressure was short lived as Yuvraj Singh made his way to the crease. He played a quick firing 52 from 32 balls which consisted 8 fours and 1 six. Virat Kohli was the star performer in today’s game; He played a captain’s knock and remained not out scoring 81 runs. He hit 8 fours and 3 huge sixes and made India cross the 300 mark. The last batsman to make his way to the crease was Hardik Pandya. He smashed 3 consecutive sixes in three balls and remained not out after scoring 20 runs. For Pakistan Md. Amir bowled really well but was taken off the field after getting injured. Wahab riaz too was taken off after he injured his ankle. Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali took 1 wicket each. Pakistan made quite a mess in the fielding after two important catches of Kohli and Yuvraj was dropped.
