CFL 2019: East Bengal beats BSS 2-1, registers their first win of the tournament

Kolkata: Kolkata giants East Bengal FC has registered their first win in the Calcutta Football League 2019 as they beat BSS 2-1 at their home ground on Sunday.

After a goal by Jaime Santos Colado in the first half East Bengal’s young forward Vidyashagar Singh scored the insurance goal in the 52nd minute as he took a stunning shot outside the box which beat BSS goalie. At the additional minutes of the match East Bengal’s Kamalpreet Singh & Asheer Akhtar did a hand ball inside the box after which the referee promptly gave a penalty to BSS and William Opoku didn’t miss the chance to make it 2-1 but it was too late for the visitors.

Earlier in the first half East Bengal got the early lead on the 17th minute of the game via Jaime Santos Colado’s goal. After getting a deflected ball from BSS captain Goutam Kujur, Colado took a stunning grounder to give the Red & Gold an early lead. East Bengal’s new Spanish forward Marcos Jimenez De La Espada faced some problems in the middle as the ground condition was very poor and beside that it was his first match as well. Though his heading and passing was quite good. On the 27th minute East Bengal got a chance to double their lead. From Colado’s corner Marti Crespi took a header but BSS footballer Karan Thapa made a stunning goal line save.

The Red and Gold Brigade had to make a forced change as their defender Mehtab Singh sustained a hamstring injury and he was replaced by Asheer Akhtar.

Just ahead of the end of the first half the home side got another chance to score but they failed again. Star midfielder Lalrindika Ralte gave a stunning ball to Marcos inside the box but he failed to convert it into a goal with just the BSS goalkeeper in front of him. Later in the second half East Bengal Head Coach Alejandro Garcia replaced Marcos with Boithang Haokip.
