CFL 2019: Naorem the hero, Mohun Bagan gets 2-1 win against BSS ahead of Kolkata Derby

Sabyasachi Bagchi, Kalyani: After a shaky first half Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan played well in the second half of the game to win their crucial Calcutta Football League encounter against BSS 2-1 at Kalyani. So far Bagan has played three matches in this season’s CFL and this is the first time they have left the field with full three points, that too ahead of the Kolkata Derby. Though they have won the game but there are still some problem with the defence line which can put them in trouble against Alejandro Menendez Garcia’s East Bengal on Sunday.

In the first half BSS gave a tough fight to Mohun Bagan but in the second half Kibu Vicuna’s boys booked in different mood and they played brilliant football as well and the reason behind this was India’s U-17 star Nongdamba Naorem. In the first half the Green and Maroon Brigade got a much needed lead thanks to Salva Chamorro but they conceded the goal in no time and that’s why Kibu Vicuna looked in a bit tension.

But Naorem saved the day for Bagan in the second half. At the start of the second half Mohun Bagan coach kibu Vicuna brought Sk. Sahil in place of Imran Khan. After that Naorem made it 2-1 in favor of his side with a calm headed.

Earlier on the first half at the 4th game Fran Gonzalez missed the easiest chance of the match. On the 9th minute of the game a floater from the left wing by Imran Khan  was headed towards the goal by Gonzalez but it touched the hand of opposition footballer Vikash Saini. The awarded the penalty promptly. Though Fran failed to score the goal from penalty. BSS forward William Opoku & Mohun Bagan’s rejected footballer Ujjwal Hawladhar created a lot of attack inside Bagan’s defence.

On the 30th minute of the game Salva Chamorro scored the much needed first goal for his side as he headed a goal bound shot of Naorem straight into the net. But this lead was there for just three minutes as William Opoku made it 1-1 on the 33rd minute of the game as he took an advantage of Gurginder Kumar’s mistake. On the 36th minute of the game Naorem failed to score an easy chance despite of surpassing BSS goalie Sandip Pal. Not only that Fran Gonzalez again failed to score for the Kolkata giants after getting a very good floater from Brito.

On the 68th minute of the game Joseba Beitia came in for Salva Chamorro and Naorem was replaced by Sk. Faiaz on the 79th minute. of the game. Today VP Suhair failed to make any impact in the game.

But ahead of Sunday’s Kolkata Derby at the Salt Lake Stadium Mohun Bagan will definitely be happy with their performance in the second half of the game against BSS. Now it will be interesting to see what would be Kibu Vicuna’s plan against Alejandro Menendez Garcia who won two derby matches in the last season.
