Kalyani: Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan beat NBP Rainbow 1-0 to reach the second spot in the points table of Calcutta Football League 2019. After this game Mohun Bagan has 14 points in 8 matches. Though they are on the same points with table toppers Peerless but they are in second place in goal difference. The goal scorer for Mohun Bagan was the supersub Subho Ghosh. Bagan could have scored four or five goals today but their forward line failed to convert those into goals.
In the first half Mohun Bagan played ordinary football. At the start of the game Bagan coach Kibu Vicuna used Joseba Beitia as a withdrawal striker in place of Salva Chamorro. Trinidad and Tobago defender Daneil Cyrus made his debut in this game. The Green and Maroon Brigade got an easy chance on the 5th minute of the game. Cyrus gave a brilliant pass to Beitia, but he failed to convert it into a goal.
After that on the 10th minute of the game Rainbow’s forward Amobi missed a chance of scoring. On the 23rd minute of the game Naorem had a chance to score when he got a cross from Spanish midfielder Fran Gonzalez but he failed to convert it into a goal. Beside that VP Suhair missed another chance on the 29th minute of the game.
In the second half Kibu Vicuna brought Subho Ghosh in place of Britto and after that the Bagan looked a different side all together. On the 66th minute of the game Mohun Bagan’s supersub Subho Ghosh scored the winner for the Kolkata giants. Beitia took a corner and Subho did no wrong and took a stunning header and made it 1-0. Ahead of this game Subho scored a goal against Aryan and today he gave full three points to Bagan.
On the 89th minute of the game Rainbow’s Saikat Sarkar single handedly rattled the Bagan defence but Bagan goalie Debjit was well aware this time and he stopped Saikat at the very last moment. On the 82nd minute of the game Salva Chamorro replaced Joseba Beitia. On the very last moment of the game Mohun Bagan got a chance to make it 2-0 when Chamorro took a header after getting a ball from Fran Gonzalez’s free kick but unfortunately his header hit the cross bar.
