Kolkata: Calcutta Football League to follow the footsteps of the new amendment of the I-League. The AIFF has already announced the possibility of increasing the number of foreigners for the forthcoming season in the Premier A Division. Today, in an official press meet, The IFA Secretary Utpal Ganguli said, "There will be the license of fielding three foreigners in the playing XI from the new season. There will be the advantage of playing with an extra foreigner from this season unlike the previous one".
The CFL 2017 will commence on either 6th or 7th August. Defending champions East Bengal will play the opening game by following the custom of the competition. Army XI have already pulled out of the league by showing their specific reasons and thus the competition will be a 10-team affair.
This season three teams will be relegated from Premier A and four teams will be promoted to the league in the CFL 2018, which means the league will be comprising of twelve teams. Meanwhile, IFA to start U-19 League from this season. It is stated to all the teams that a U19 team is a compulsion for all the participating teams from the 2019 season.
