Kolkata: Mohun Bagan beats Tapan Memorial in the final of Senior Knock-Out Tournament 2016-17, thanks to some brilliant bowling by veteran Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda who took 5 wickets for 28 runs.

Earlier Mohun Bagan won the toss and choose to field first. Dinda destroyed Tapan Memorial’s top order with his fiery spell and he was well backed by his team-mate Nilkantha Das who took two wickets as Tapan Memorial could only managed to score 136 runs in 45.3 overs before getting all-out. Arun Charpana (31) was the top scorer for his side and most of the other batsmen failed to make any impact in the match.

In reply Mohun Bagan achieved the target in just 21 overs by losing just three wickets. India’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha scored a quick fire 44 runs and Sudip Chatterjee played a knock of 31 runs to take Mohun Bagan home.

After winning the final against Tapan Memorial, in a conversation with xtratime.in Wriddhiman said,” After losing the semi-final against East Bengal in the CAB 1st Division League, I gave a pep-talk to my team-mates that we have a brilliant team and everybody should perform according to their potentials. I think that pep-talk worked today. This was a good trophy to win after losing the derby. And to play a part in this win makes the winning more meaningful. I just want to play cricket. It doesn’t matter to me where I am playing. Whenever I get free time from my national duties I always play these matches.”

Veteran Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda was adjudged Man of the match for his brilliant five wicket haul against Tapan Memorial. Dinda was happy that he has given a trophy to Mohun Bagan.”After playing last few seasons for Kalighat I came to Mohun Bagan in this season as the officials had the belief that I can give the club a trophy. I am very happy that I have contributed to team’s win.”
