Barcelona exit for Neymar over tax persecution ?

Neimar-02

Neymar Jr could leave Barcelona if his problems with Spanish tax authorities continue, says Neymar Sr. High profile La Liga players have been at the centre of tax scandals in the last year or so with Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso (now at Bayern Munich) being investigated by authorities. Speaking to Cadena Ser, Neymar Sr, who is his son’s agent, spoke about the reason that a contract renewal with Barcelona hasn’t proved as straightforward as either party would like.

“We are talking about a contract renewal but we’re waiting to resolve some things that concern us. We can’t have this uncertainty with the tax of not knowing if what we’re doing is right. We need to know if Spain accepts our situation. It’s hard for us because we’re receiving many attacks, from Spain and Brazil on matters of taxation. Neymar is a media player and we work his image from Brazil.

“We have to do the right things and I’d like to know if Spain will let us work or we have to leave. I don’t want to use the word ‘persecution’ but if we don’t have a comfortable situation to work we can’t stay in Spain. If we are creating big problems for Spain, we can’t be here. We’ve never had such big tax problems.”

The Brazilian has been in incredible form for Barcelona since the start of last season, scoring 39 goals in their treble-winning campaign and beginning this season by scoring 13 goals in his first 14 appearances. The 23-year-old is considered by many to be the second best player in the world after Lionel Messi. But where would he go if he decided to leave Spain?

Italian clubs would presumably be priced out of being considered. Bayern Munich’s wage cap wouldn’t allow Neymar’s salary but this would be a player to break the bank for. Paris Saint-Germain would be leading contenders.

English clubs would also fancy their chances of convincing Neymar to come to the Premier League with Manchester United being favourites for his signature after meeting with the player in the summer.
